Hailing from Connecticut, Ms. Caroline Crouse joins the high school's English department as an English 9 ACP and English 10 Honors English teacher. She comes to Wellesley after receiving her degree from the University of Connecticut and after five years teaching in Connecticut.
As a kid, Crouse wanted to be a publisher; however, she moved away from the idea and opted to pursue teaching after having an excellent experience with her teachers as a kid.
When asked about those teachers she said, “I wanted to become a teacher because I had really amazing teachers when I was growing up. Teachers who really cared about me and really inspired me, specifically I had really great English teachers in high school, and I just looked forward to their classes and talking to them. About reading and about writing, and I kind of realised when I was in high school that that's what I wanted to do, too.”
After finishing her degree at UConn, the high school offered Crouse the opportunity to sit in on a 10th grade honors English class.
Reminiscing on the class she says, “it was a 10th grade honours class, and they just were so open to having me come in, like, who they didn't know, having me come in and teach a lesson, and they were so talkative and creative, and it was just like this really nice experience.”
As of now, Crouse's favorite piece of literature is Louisa May Alcott’s novel, Little Women, which she has re-read every winter since she was a kid. She likes to share her passion in literature with her classes. Crouse teaches English 9 ACP as well as English 10 Honors. Her goal for her first year here at Wellesley High School is to have an inviting and welcoming classroom environment.
“I think with teaching, even if I plan things out and I think I know how it's gonna go,, there are always surprises that come up and interesting things that happen.” Crouse enjoys the new things that happen in every class and how the experiences are never the same.
Gabby Simon ’29, one of Ms. Crouse’s students, “loves her class so much. She makes every class such a nice environment, she makes sure that everyone is up to date with what we need to know, and she really goes in depth with explanations of text and literature”.
All and all Crouse is looking forward to teaching this year and hopefully for many years to come.
